Après Ski Y'ALL
Attention Snow Bunnies!
Get out of the city this February and head for the hills, literally… Grab your skis, goggles and flashiest snow suit and practice your pizza slice on the slopes, or stride into the nearest lodge for a little Après Ski.
No matter your ski preference, we’ve rounded up the best destinations (near and far), gear and thermos brands to get the most out of your Winter getaway. Now, it’s time to cuddle up by the fire and sip on some hot cocoa all weekend long!
GET AWAY!
1. DAY TRIP
Thunder Ridge in Patterson, NY is the place to go for one-day lift passes that’s just a hop, skip and a jump or quick ride on the Metro North Ski Train from the New York City. The ticket package includes round trip train tickets and lift passes that get you to the slopes and back before dinner. The resort will even pick you up at the train station!
2. WEEK-END TRIP
Vermont is New England’s premier ski destination. A little bit further displaced from the city, Okemo Mountain Resort is the perfect weekend getaway to get your ski on. Take your time and enjoy all the mountain has to offer including one-on-one ski lessons, paint and sip nights, and several lodging options. Plan a long weekend getaway and get your fourth night free!
3. GET-FAR-AWAY
Lake Tahoe is notorious for hosting the Winter Olympics in 1960, but these days, it’s a vacation destination both in the Winter and the Summer months. Shred down a black diamond or bunny hill and crash for a little Après Ski in one of the many lodges, even check out Reno while you’re there!
YOU KNOW YOU LOOK GOOD:
1. BUNDLE UP
It can be cold on the mountain (especially if you wipe out in the snow). Dress for the occasion and grab your snow pants and jacket from Burton. Pick fun, galactic patterns to stand out on the mountain. ORR take a “Hot Tube Time Machine” back to the 1980s and purchase this rainbow number and a pair of rainbow Freezy Freakies that reveal cute little unicorns when exposed to cold temps.
2. STRAP YOUR SKI ON
Most ski destinations offer ski rentals for those of us that don’t get to go skiing that often, but if you do, some quality skis are worth splurging for. Völkl skis are top of the line and perfect for a diehard skier. Don’t forget your helmet*!
3. THROW SOME SHADE
The glare of the mountain can be harsh. Don’t get blinded by the light, throw on some Oakley or Smith I/OS Polarized goggles to carve out the perfect path.
4. PROTECT YOUR NOGGIN*
Don’t forget your helmet! We are digging this Smith Holt snow helmet that comes in a range of colors, removable goggle locks (necessary right?) and is compatible with Skullcandy headphones!
SIP, SIP, SKI:
Don’t glide down the hill without a thermos full of hot tea, hot cocoa, or other hot beverage to fend off the chilly mountain air. A good thermos will be insulated well enough to keep your drinks hot, and can take a beating a black diamond can only dish out. If you’re looking for a good thermos to take on your ski getaway, check out our favorites!
