And if you’re not a fan of traditional tomato sauce, you can easily replace it with alfredo sauce or sun-dried tomatoes to give it an Italian twist.
Whether you’re hosting a dinner party or just looking to indulge in some comfort food on a cozy night in, this recipe is perfect for any occasion. So go ahead and give it a try, I promise you won’t be disappointed!
Here are the ingredients you need to make this delicious baked garlic chicken and mozzarella with pasta:
- Boneless chicken breast halves – you will need four pieces, pounded thin
- Garlic cloves – three cloves, minced
- Olive oil, divided
- Italian seasoning blend – mix of dried basil, oregano and garlic powder
- Biscuit mix – ½ cup
- Grated Parmesan cheese
- Salt and pepper
- Tomato sauce – 8 oz can
- Linguine pasta – around 8 oz dried
- Shredded mozzarella cheese – about 1 cup or more if you like extra cheesy pasta
- Fresh parsley leaves – chopped
Feel free to adjust the ingredients according to your preferences. You can use any type of pasta that you like or even try it with chicken ravioli. Additionally, you may also add your favorite vegetables such as sun-dried tomatoes, spinach or bell peppers to make your dish even more colorful and flavorful.
The Recipe How-To
Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C)
Before starting to cook or prepare any ingredients, preheat your oven, as it will take longer to reach the desired temperature than you think.
Prepare the chicken
I recommend using boneless chicken breast halves since they bake quickly and evenly. Start by seasoning each side with salt, black pepper, garlic powder, oregano and basil.
Coat the chicken with biscuit mix
For a crispy texture, use biscuit mix to coat each seasoned chicken breast. You may also add grated Parmesan cheese to the mix for an extra layer of flavor.
Bake the garlic chicken
Place the coated chicken breasts in a baking dish and drizzle them with some olive oil, which will help to brown and crisp up the coating. Add several whole garlic cloves to the dish; they will roast while the chicken bakes and become soft and caramelized.
Bake for around 20-25 minutes, ensuring that your chicken is cooked through and no longer pink in the center.
Add tomato sauce and cheese
Once your garlic chicken is done, take it out of the oven and smother it with tomato sauce. Be sure to spoon it generously over each piece. Lastly, top off each breast with shredded mozzarella cheese.
Put the baking dish back into the oven for another 10-12 minutes or until the cheese becomes bubbly and golden brown.
Serve hot with linguine pasta or any other pasta of your choice. Sprinkle some grated Parmesan cheese over your pasta for an extra zing!
Enjoy your hearty and savory baked garlic chicken & mozzarella with pasta!
Substitutions and Variations
In cooking, we are always looking for ways to mix things up and add personal touches to our favorite dishes. Here are some substitutions and variations that you can try with this Baked Garlic Chicken & Mozzarella With Pasta recipe.
Firstly, if you prefer a vegetarian option, you can substitute the boneless chicken breast halves with meat substitutes like tofu, tempeh, or even portobello mushroom caps. Just keep in mind that the cook time may vary depending on the type of substitute you choose.
If you’re looking to add more depth of flavor to your dish, try adding sun-dried tomatoes, fresh basil leaves or sliced red bell pepper to your tomato sauce. It will give the pasta a pop of color and an additional layer of taste.
Another variation is to use fettuccine alfredo instead of linguine pasta for a creamier option. You can also try using shredded mozzarella cheese instead of fresh mozzarella for easy melting.
For those who love cheese, why not experiment with different varieties? Mozzarella provolone blends or Parmesan garlic roasted cheese can be used instead of plain old mozzarella cheese shredded on top or add some grated parmesan cheese on top for that extra umami kick.
Lastly, garlic butter chicken breast is simply divine! Just melt some butter in a pan and add chopped garlic cloves then sear chicken breast until cooked through — it’s so easy and full flavor!
Overall, there are endless possibilities to make this recipe your own by utilizing various substitutions and variations. Give them a try and find your perfect combination!
Serving and Pairing
When it comes to serving and pairing with this baked garlic chicken and mozzarella pasta dish, you have some options that will elevate the experience. First and foremost, I recommend serving it fresh out of the oven to get the cheesy goodness in its prime state.
As for pairings, I suggest having a glass of red wine or beer (depending on your preference). The cheesy and slightly spicy flavors of the dish will be perfectly balanced out by a light-bodied red, such as Pinot noir or Chianti. If you opt for beer, try an IPA or a pale ale that has a hoppy bite to it. The bitterness also offsets the richness of the cheese nicely.
In terms of sides, you could go for a fresh garden salad with tomatoes and cucumbers, lightly dressed with balsamic vinegar and olive oil. A garlic bread would also be a delicious addition, especially if you want to mop up any remaining sauce on your plate. Alternatively, if you want something heartier, roasted vegetables such as broccoli or asparagus would add some color and nutrition to your plate.
Remember that this dish is indulgent and packed with flavor, so you don’t want to detract from it by serving anything too heavy or overpowering. Keep things simple and let the pasta fazoli copy recipe shine on its own!

Lucky for you, this Baked Garlic Chicken and Mozzarella with Pasta recipe can be made-ahead so that you can enjoy it even on your busiest days. Make-Ahead: Whether you want to save time or simply love the convenience of having a ready-to-eat meal, the good news is that this recipe can be made-ahead of time. Simply prepare the dish according to the recipe instructions, cover tightly with foil or plastic wrap, and store it in the fridge for up to 24 hours before baking. Storing: If you happen to have any leftovers of this scrumptious meal, they can easily be stored for later enjoyment. To do so, place any leftover baked garlic chicken and mozzarella with pasta in an airtight container and store it in the refrigerator for up to three days.
Reheating: The best way to reheat baked garlic chicken and mozzarella with pasta is by using your oven or toaster oven. Make sure to preheat your oven to 350 degrees F (180 C), then place the leftover dish on an oven-safe dish or baking sheet. Cover the baking dish with foil and warm it in the oven for about 15 minutes until heated through. Alternatively, you may also reheat portions in a microwave-safe dish by microwaving them on medium heat in one-minute intervals.

Tips for Perfect Results
In order to achieve the perfect result when making Baked Garlic Chicken & Mozzarella with Pasta, there are a few tips and tricks that I highly recommend. These tips will ensure that your meal comes out deliciously flavorful and perfectly cooked.
The first tip is to marinate the chicken in olive oil, garlic, oregano, basil, and black pepper. Marinating is a process of soaking food in a mixture to infuse it with flavor or to tenderize it. This process allows the chicken to absorb all the flavors of the marinade and become more tender. If possible, marinate the chicken overnight for maximum flavor.
When baking the chicken, make sure to use a cooking thermometer to ensure it reaches an internal temperature of 165°F (75°C). This is an important safety measure to avoid any health risks.
Another tip is to use fresh garlic for maximum flavor. Fresh garlic has a stronger and more pungent flavor compared to garlic powder or dried garlic flakes. You can also add roasted garlic cloves to the marinade for an even richer flavor.
To get a crispy golden brown crust on your chicken, use a combination of parmesan cheese and biscuit mix as the coating. The parmesan cheese adds a nutty salty flavor while biscuit mix creates a light and airy texture.
Lastly, do not overcook the chicken as it can become dry and tough. It is better to slightly undercook it and let it rest for 5-10 minutes before cutting into it so that the juices can redistribute.
By following these tips, you will achieve the perfect Baked Garlic Chicken & Mozzarella with Pasta every time. These small tricks will take your recipe from good to great and impress anyone who tastes it!
In conclusion, I highly recommend trying this baked garlic chicken and mozzarella with pasta recipe. Not only is it a delicious and indulgent dish, but it is also incredibly easy to make with common ingredients. Whether you are in the mood for something comforting or impressing your dinner guests, this recipe won’t disappoint. Baked Garlic Chicken & Mozzarella With Pasta * Fazoli’s Copy Recipe
- 2 tablespoons olive oil, divided
- 1/2 cup biscuit mix
- 2 tablespoons grated parmesan cheese
- 1 teaspoon basil
- 1 teaspoon oregano
- 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1/4 teaspoon pepper
- 4 boneless chicken breast halves
- 1 quart home-made tomato sauce
- 1 (28 ounce) can spaghetti sauce
- 3 -5 garlic cloves, minced (or pressed)
- 3 cups shredded mozzarella cheese, divided
- 12 ounces linguine, cooked & drained (or fettucini)
- 1/2 cup parmesan cheese (set aside for later)
- Preheat frying pan to medium high; preheat oven to 350. Grease 13×9 pan with 1 T. of the olive oil.
- In a medium bowl, combine biscuit mix, Parmesan, basil, oregano, garlic and pepper.
- Pull "tenders" from breast halves. Dredge all pieces in the biscuit mixture; pressing it on as necessary.
- Add remaining oil to hot frying pan, and brown the chicken pieces, turning to brown all sides. Remove pan from heat.
- While meat is browning, mix tomato and spaghetti sauces; add garlic & more herbs if you wish. (I’m very heavy-handed with the basil & oregano.).
- Spread a layer of cooked pasta over the bottom (about 1/3 of total pasta) of the 13×9 pan. Sprinkle with 1/4 of the Mozzarella cheese. Spread about a cup of the sauce over this. Repeat twice. (You should have about a cup of cheese left.)
- Lay the chicken pieces over the last layer of pasta-cheese-sauce. Pour the remaining sauce over the top of the meat, sprinkle on the remaining Mozzarella.
- Pop in the oven for 30 minutes; then sprinkle on reserved Parmesan cheese, bake for 10 more minutes.
- SERVE: A small green salad and a few slices of crisp apple or orange or a handful of grapes are delicious accompaniments.
- PLANNED OVERS #1: Whatever meat is left, cut into bite-size pieces, mix thoroughly into remaining pasta, cheese and sauce. At the next meal, you may need to add a few drops of water or sauce to juice it up, but reheated–this works beautifully.
- PLANNED OVERS #2: If no meat is left-over, spread pasta in the bottom of a greased casserole, lay some pepperoni slices over the top, sprinkle with a bit of Cheddar cheese, and bake until bubbly. Sounds like SUPPER!
- SUBSTITUTIONS: Add some chili powder to the sauce (try some salsa in there), minced (dried) onions, lots of black olives, and you have a Taco-y flavored dish instead!
