WAKE ME UP BEFORE YOU GO GO

ALTERNATIVES FOR A BETTER MORNING

This weekend Daylight Savings Time ends, and we will be losing an hour of precious sleep. We’re understandably not too happy about it…

It’s hard enough to wake up with a full night’s sleep, so we’re looking for some really effective alarms to help us wake up on the right side of the bed.

You could always put your alarm on the foghorn sound and raise the volume all the way up, but we’ve put together a few other great options to help you wake up and feel great doing it.

PHILIPS HUE

The Philips Hue is more than just an alarm option – it’s a wireless lighting system.

The lights work through an app on your phone that lets you set the type of lighting you desire (the softer lighting has even been proven to make people happier), choose different colors of light, and even control the lights from another room.

The thing we love more than its fancy colors (impossible, right?!) is the lighting wake up system. You can set your Hue to gradually wake you up at a certain time mimicking the rising sun. This makes for a much more pleasant waking experience that we’re seriously digging.

FREAKY ALARM

Need something a little more intense than light to get you out of bed? How about math and logic problems….

The Freaky Alarm app makes you answer a series of math and logic questions before the alarm will turn off. It even overrides the volume so that you can’t turn it down until you answer the problems.

The point is to wake you up, pull you out of a sleep state, and get you to start focusing!

SLEEP CYCLE

Ever had one of those days where you feel like you just woke up on the wrong side of the bed? Well, it isn’t so much the side of the bed, but the sleep cycle you were in when your alarm woke you up.

There are certain sleep cycles when it’s easier for your body to wake up, and others that just feel wrong. We love this iPhone app because it tracks your sleep habits and finds the optimal time within your sleep cycle to wake you up.

The app works by placing your phone on your bed or under your pillow. It then analyzes and tracks your sleep patterns. Just set a time range when you want to get up, and the app will automatically alarm when you are in your lightest sleep.

WAKÉ

This awesome Kickstarter-funded alarm system uses light and sound to gently wake you up.

A more intense investment, this system is installed above your bed. At the designated time it gradually uses soft light and targeted soft sounds to awake you.

The best part about the targeted sound and light? It really is targeted just to the person who wants to wake up.

Say your boo doesn’t need to wake up for another hour? The music and light is only directed at your head on your side of the bed so that they aren’t wakened. Relationship lifesaver!

Convinced to stop using your basic alarm clock app? There’s no time like the present to try it out when you spring your clocks forward.
