Without the hallucinogens...
This is the grooviest post we’ve done yet…
Now, you’ve probably seen Mushrooms in salads, and maybe just maybe you’ve seen them on pizza, but have you seen them in tea? How about baked into perfect little pieces of Shiitake Bacon? Or what about in your morning coffee?
That’s right people… MUSHROOMS! Now you can ‘shroom in all sorts of ways that can have lasting effects on your health and wellness.
Did you know that White Button Mushrooms can help directly with weight loss? Mushrooms have a natural earthiness and meatiness to them and substituting Mushrooms in place of red meat can help promote weight loss.
Throw away your supplements PEOPLE! Eating ‘shrooms regularly can enhance your vitamin D levels just as well, if not better, than actual vitamins can. If eaten regularly, Mushrooms have also been proven to have long lasting effects on immune system function.
And don’t forget about the medicinal varieties! These varieties are not meant to be eaten and their health benefits can be extracted through boiling in hot water. Various species of Mushrooms have long been used in eastern and western traditional medicine for their healing and stress relieving properties. The three of the most popular varieties are Reishi, Cordyceps, and Chaga.
Here are some ways we like to take down our fav fungus:
1. Mushroom Tea
Mushroom Tea has long been a tradition in Eastern cultures, and recently has become more popular due to increased availability of immunity boosting Mushrooms. Consult your local health food store for the proper medicinal varieties and steep your own ‘shrooms at home. It’s that simple! Or, check out the offerings form Four Sigmatic. They feature brews of all varieties, and even have descriptions of what they’re good for.
2. Mushroom Coffee
For an ingredient that boasts stress relieving and relaxation inducing properties, you might be wondering why people are mixing it in with their coffee. Well, maybe you’ve noticed that you get the jitters when you have a cup of joe, or perhaps you’ve had one too many cups before and can’t be productive. Well, Mushroom Coffee claims to be the solution to both these problems. Four Sigmatic also sells their own versions made with Cordyceps and Lion’s Mane varieties.
3. Shiitake Bacon
Have you tried our famous Shiitake Bacon yet? It’s probably the tastiest way to enjoy ‘shrooms (ok, we’re a little bias, but you need to trust us on this!)… As Chef Chloe explains in her segment on “The Today Show“ Shiitake Mushrooms have a natural meatiness to them that intensifies when they’re roasted. Check out the recipe for Pasta Carbonara with Shiitake bacon and try it out for yourself.
