Travel through Northern California, the vegan way

I’m goin, back, back, to Cali, Cali, Cali. (psst…don’t forget to pack your vegan snacks!)

So, you’re going to Northern California. You want it all— vineyards, hiking, and some well-deserved R&R. Don’t worry… we’ve got you covered. We know where to stay, what to do, and who to hit up for a reservation.

It wouldn’t be a trip to California without a visit to a local winery. Luckily for you and your vegan diet, there are amazing vegan and organic vineyards on the way to your hotel. Sonoma, California is home to breathtaking wineries that will put you in the California spirit. Enjoy the Californian sun, taste fresh wines, gram the experience, and let the vacation begin!

After your first stab as temporary Californian, a 2-hour drive along the breathtaking coast (it’s all about Route 1, amirite?) will bring you to Mendocino – home of the only vegan resort in the country, The Stanford Inn. Imagine: top-down, shades on, your fave music playing while driving along the waterfront. Sign. Me. Up.

…And you have arrived!

The Stanford Inn recently went 100% vegan, growing most ingredients used in their Raven’s Restaurant recipes on site. It’s basically impossible to be bored there; from gourmet vegan dining, kayak rentals, hiking, and cooking classes, the Stanford Inn has it all. Side note: the town is beyond gorg. Mendocino, California has a population of 894 and might be one of the prettiest towns we’ve ever seen.

Settle into your room, unpack, have a glass of wine (hey, you’re on vacation!) and get ready for all the fun. Depending on what you’re up for (and how much energy you have), choose your own adventure.

Views Things: A short (10 minute) drive will bring you to Fort Bragg. You will never get a better view of the Pacific than at this historical American landmark! While you’re there, make sure to check out the Glass Beach— a beach naturally covered in sea glass.

Do Things: If you want to work up a sweat or satisfy your outdoorsy side, rent a canoe or kayak, right on property. Your relaxing (or intense, we don’t judge) row down Big River is guaranteed to be beautiful. You can also rent a bike and explore Mendocino.

Eat Things: Of course kayaking/canoeing, sightseeing, and wine touring is amazing, but our favorite part of the Stanford Inn has got to be the food. The Raven’s food is exceptional, and its chef is always hosting cooking classes. This summer they are offering twelve courses ranging from sauces, dressings, soups, baking, entrees, and desserts. Also, they posted the best video ever on their YouTube channel where they make vegan parmesan.

You can only get this kind of experience at the Stanford Inn because it’s the only hotel in the country that’s 100% vegan. Whether you’re a vegan pro, new to the vegan party, or just looking to have a good time, the Stanford Inn is the perfect getaway for you.
